The village trust have a "Who lived in my house project" on the go at the moment where they are letting you search the archives and find out who the previous family where, how many children they had the householders jobs in the factory and even where they went on the office party educational trips that where put on.
All for free.
Eg the last big house on bolton road by the small low bridge was the Doctors house and the row of cottages opposite where destroyed in the blitz. (check the false front double doors).
