Hi, I'm looking for photos of the Stone Manganese. My late father and grandfather worked there. They were photographed together in from of the big propeller in the 1960.s. I would love to get a copy. My dad worked there from leaving the Royal Marines in 1946, till he died in 1987.His name was Les Ainscough. thanks

Hi paul and welcome to the site.

Stone manganese is not what it once was, it is still here but a lot of the buildings have been knocked down.

There is a thread all about it somewhere, i shall try and find it for you. smile

Hi Paul.
I was a Patternmaker at SMM from 1977-98 & remember Les well. He worked in the foundry with the likes of Mick & Benny Rigby on the bolting up gang. If you pm me with your email I can send you some photos but have just had a quick look & I don't think Les is on any of them. Your best bet on here will be Mike [Cameraman] who might have some photos of Les. Didn't Les's Son work there for a while. Here is a link on Wiki for Smm.

Hi Paul, Glad Keith has sent you the link to the photo of Les. worked with him for 6 years in the early 80's. He was a top bloke. I'm afraid thats the only one I can find of him at the moment.
Regards
Mike
