I've just come back from Norfolk Island and had a 'ball' of a time, what Thomas done is what most wirral Grrrrs do!!!

NORFOLK Island, a dot in the Pacific Ocean east of Australia and once home to a savage British penal colony, has been shaken by a paedophilia scandal involving a descendant of the Bounty mutineer Fletcher Christian.
The picturesque, sub-tropical island, a popular holiday destination that lies 900 miles east of Brisbane, is in shock after a court found 68-year-old Stephen Nobbs, widely regarded as a pillar of the community, guilty of indecency against children aged between seven and 13. Islanders say the case exposes a history of sustained child abuse over several decades, encouraged by the island's isolation and the reluctance of victims to come forward in a society in which everybody knows each other.
Nobbs, a landowner, former deacon of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a successful businessman, claims descent from Christian, who led the mutiny on the Bounty. Witnesses at court last week gave evidence that Nobbs was a persistent paedophile who for 20 years molested young girls at their homes, at his holiday apartments and even, once, outside church after a service. One woman testified that she kept quiet about the abuse for years "because I thought it was my fault". In sentencing Nobbs, Ron Cahill, a chief magistrate from the Australian mainland, said the businessman was still in denial about his crimes.
Many of the 2,000 islanders are outraged at the leniency of the sentence. Despite being convicted of six counts of indecency, Nobbs received only a detention order under which he will be jailed for 48 hours every weekend for the next 48 weeks in the island's police station. Kate Davies, 59, an author and retired tourist operator who has lived on the island for two decades, said she was "absolutely disgusted" by the sentence. "It's another slap in the face for the victims," she said. "It's been a big cover-up because many people on the island are worried that it will hurt tourism."
She said the island, which has its own tiny government consisting of a legislative assembly and four ministers, was bitterly divided over the sentence. "Women particularly are very, very angry. This is a patriarchal society, and the attitude seems to be 'well that's what men are like'. A lot of the good old boys here don't think that what Nobbs did was wrong."

No matter how strongly you feel about this person, I can't help but think inciting anyone to attempt the murder of a person on bail by cutting their throat is correct or even legal which is why I'm flagging this post.

Anyway, if you feel that strongly why not do it yourself?

Spot on, Shambo! People who produce and consume such disgusting images deserve lengthy prison sentences. This trial is still ongoing however. Whether he is innocent or guilty is for the jury to decide based on the evidence brought before them.
If Mark has any sense then Ste's comment will be deleted ASAP. It could be construed as incitement to murder and could get the two of them into trouble.

I agree with you that organised religion has a long history of problems with paedophilia. However, I think you should reserve judgement on this case until the verdict is delivered.

We should never make assumptions. Have a look at the statistics on the link as an eye opener. So, on absorbing that, everyone could be in the frame!

I'm not making assumptions. Religion has a record of child abuse going back centuries. I'm not just singling out religion though. Any groups of people that try to exert physical or moral authority over other people are prone to such behavior. Whether it be Catholic priests and bishops, cult leaders, Socialist Workers Party leaders etc.

Teachers, brothers, fathers, step fathers, uncles, family friends, even mothers!

Although I should re-phrase my comment above and say it could be applied to anyone who has contact with children. Very scarey and I agree with you on what you say about religious persons,as it has been proven so much in most recent times. Even so, statistics reveal, that they are less than 1% , therefore we should open our eyes more and maybe see what could be sitting on our doorsteps. As much as it is something we would rather not admit to, it's going on under our noses.
I like you Touchstone, because you are quite pleasant, when you don't talk about my Queen!!!!

Quite pleasant? Very kind of you to say so, Granny. I'll leave the Royal Family alone for this thread at least wink
I think you're right about what goes on under our nose should concern us most. Children are most likely to be abused by a relation or family friend. Many people seem to believe the rubbish pumped out by the likes of the Sun and the Mail about peedos [sic] being on every corner.

It's perfectly legal for me to have sex with a 16 year old girl but why, when I look at a naked 16 year old girl on the internet, am I then classed as a paedo?
