Why did they take the money. A bank statement will the show the transaction. If they had no reason to take it you can get it back.

If its been taken by Direct Debit and you query it as not authorised then the bank have to refund it under the direct debit guarantee scheme.

If they have taken it by your credit card then again, you are covered, as you can claim it back as an unauthorised transaction.

If its from a debit card then slightly more difficult as you have to do the leg work to get Virgin to pay it back (or take them to Court).

Even if they have closed your account they still have to keep records for a minimum of six years, so don't accept any of the "we don't know anything about it" as they do.

Pointless talking to he call centre (who will "understand your frustration"), you need to get someone higher up to call you back, and make sure they specify a time period.

Never heard of Virvin Media. Must be some rubbish company. Bank wouldn't allow that to happen in one transaction unless you had given authority. Nonsense.

2 things I notice from grannys posting
1) commenting on a persons spelling ( probably accidently done in temper )
2) as I see it basically saying that burgerchips is fibbing

too many people on these sites nowadays are quick to pull others down over their spelling
and yes I AM OFF TOPIC offtopic

Ok so everytime you make a spelling mistake, can i pull you up over it, as reddragon says, it was typed on a phone screen and i was fuming when i typed it.

Has the rules changed on here, to allow idiots to correct peoples spelling, as i always thought that was frowned upon on here.

You really do need to get a life granny.

Thanks doc, yes it was taken from a debit card, every time i phone they say they can not find my details on there system, I am in process of talking to there C.E.O, who will be phoning me in the morning.

He asked me to email him copyies of my id, and a letter from virgin media with my account number on.

So hopefully this will get sorted tomorrow, and I will be seeking some extra as well, a nice 6 months free broadband will do nicely.

Burger, your eyes must be square if they think you watched 3 grand worth of tv/internet, I don't even think if you download all the ppv movies including sport it would come near to 3 grand.

I know with sky you can go online and see what on your bill is and if someone has put a ppv event on, it shows up, can't you do that with virgin?

There are some "government" bodies who can legally invoke a "deduction order" to recover debt owed, without the consent or knowledge of the account holder, but I've not heard of this from a private company such as Virgin Media.

As The Dr says, direct debits carry safeguards, so if in this case your account has been debited without good reason or sufficient notice, you can legally have recourse the direct debit guarantee, which means your bank are obliged to refund you in full, and then it is a matter for them to take the issue up with the third party to recover "their" money.

However, again as The Dr states, beware "regular card payments", as these differ greatly from direct debits. :

Quote
Cancelling a regular card payment
When you give your credit or debit card details to a company and authorise them to take regular payments from your account, such as for a gym membership or magazine subscription, it is known as a ‘recurring transaction’ or ‘continuous payment authority’.

These are often confused with direct debits, but do not offer the same guarantee if the amount or date of the payment changes.

In most cases, regular payments can be cancelled by telling the company taking the payments. However, you have the right to cancel them directly with your bank or card issuer by telling it that you have stopped permission for the payments. Your bank or card issuer must then stop them – it has no right to insist that you agree this first with the company taking the payments.

Be aware though that you will still be responsible for paying any money that you owe.

As these recurring card payments afford less rights than direct debits, as a general point, it is much better to avoid them if possible, but I don't know if that helps you in this instance BurgerChips? Good luck with resolving your problem anyway!

With regard to recurring card payments, it used to be the case that only the originator, in this case Virgin, could cancel the arrangement. I now understand that your bank is obliged to make a refund, or at least pursue the matter on your behalf.
