George Herbert Leigh Mallory from Cheshire (18 June 1886 – 8 or 9 June 1924) was an English mountaineer who took part in the first three British expeditions to Mount Everest in the early 1920s.

During the 1924 British Mount Everest Expedition, Mallory and his climbing partner Andrew "Sandy" Irvine both disappeared somewhere high on the North-East ridge during their attempt to make the first ascent of the world's highest mountain. The pair's last known sighting was only a few hundred metres from the summit.

Mallory's ultimate fate was unknown for 75 years, until his body was discovered in 1999 by an expedition that had set out to search for the climbers' remains. Whether or not Mallory and Irvine reached the summit before they died remains a subject of speculation and continuing research.

Anyway, back on topic.

Andrew Irvine. 22 years old from Birkenhead along with 37 year old George mallory from Mobberley were the 1st to reach the summit in 1924, however it seems they had a fall on their descent.

Irvines body has never been recovered, neither has the Kodak camera they had, if irvines body could be found it is believed he has the camera on his possession, finding the camera could help find out what happened to them and proove they were the 1st men to reach the summit.

Mallorys body was recovered in 1999, he had a hole the size of a golf ball in his forehead suggesting an ice axe injury.
He also had severe ligature injurys around his waist which was probably caused by sudden and severe rope tension.
He also had a broken leg.

They both had roads named after them, together with mount Everest, on the Tranmere Hall Estate, which was built soon after the event.
