Just re-quoting previous posts is not very helpful in advancing the argument, sunnyside. I don't feel i am re-posting i just aired my opinion, which i thought was what this forum is all about, however looks like i am wrong. So in future i need to tread carefully, and not ruffle feathers.thought we had freedom of speech. You're not wrong at all, but if you want to show agreement with a previous post, the usual way is to use smiley.
Carpe diem.

Yes, they SHOULD be banned.
Only idiots buy them weeks before and set them off.
I hate fireworks. More like nuclear bombs now than the fireworks I used to know as a kid.

They're already illegal in lots of places but it doesn't work - much like "illegal" anything, it doesn't stop people who really want to get them, from getting their hands on them.
You just end up worse off since there is then no longer any control over them (no safety standards, etc).
3 weeks is not a long time ahead and oh by the way there is nothing wrong with "commercialism" - last time I looked, Supermarkets were in business to make a profit (and we all know what happens to those that don't).
Now to the real problem: irresponsible cretins who think that November the 5th lasts from some time in October until somewhere in December. As the saying goes, you can't legislate against stupidity.

But I get more dismayed at shops selling Christmas things in September

About time premature buying of fireworks was abolished. Too many nutters buying them early and igniting them at all hours of the night. I hate them.

Can't understand anyone working all week and then spending the dosh on something that goes pfffft - bang! A big display somewhere is an option that shouldn't be over ruled. Oh, and keep the bangers out of bus shelters etc.
