Anybody suffer any flooding last week due to the drains not being able to cope? our drains backflowed and flooded the garden they are not blocked just can't cope with torrential rain, main question is what can we do about it, who's responsible etc,any feed back would be helpful thanks in advance

Sorry to hear you were flooded.I would try your home insurance provider, depends on what cover you have and they should be able to advise you who to contact.

Thanks Salmon,I dont really want to involve the insurance you know what their like as soon as you mention flooding they want to triple your premiums.

Not necessarily true.

Wasn't in my case anyway. United Utilities cleaned my house and fitted a non-return flap on my property to prevent this - it did happen a few times though.

Thanks Sammy its happend to us a load of time when we get really heavy rain as at the begining of the week,I will get in touch with United Utilities and see what happens.

Precisely that, except in our case it backed up and came out the toilet... so even more of a problem as it was from the waste drains. None return flap stopped it happening and pushed the problem to our neighbour to sort... ha.

Then they put bigger sewers in and problem solved.

My hubs is 'in the business' and he said it's hard to say without seeing it, if it was your drain in your garden then it's probably your responsibility. However, if the same thing happened to all your neighbours too then it's likely to be a mains problem. If you have insurance it's probably best to ring them.

The law on drains changed last year UU are now responsible for some pipework inside boundry lines.
We have just finished a job in Bebington and UU flushed all drains Foc a non return has also been fitted.
