A WIRRAL man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was stabbed at the weekend. Jason Cullen, of Carlton Road, Birkenhead, will appear at Wirral Magistrates Court this morning. The 40-year-old was arrested after officers were called to Bentinck Street, Birkenhead on Sunday to reports that a man had been stabbed. The 29-year-old victim was found in the back garden of the house with stab wounds and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Police confirmed his condition is still “critical.” Cullen was also charged with possession of controlled drug amphetamine and was remanded in custody.

Police were called to Bentinck Street in Birkenhead, Merseyside, on Sunday morning after reports that a man had been stabbed.

He was found in a rear garden and taken to hospital by ambulance, where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers searched the area and arrested Jason Cullen, 40, nearby.

Cullen, of Carlton Road, Birkenhead, was yesterday charged with attempted murder and possession of amphetamines.

He was remanded in custody and will appear before Wirral Magistrates Court today.

Det Chief Insp Dave McCaughrean, said: "A man has been left in a very serious condition and we urge anyone who may have seen or heard what happened to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.

"There would have been people around in the area in cars and on foot at the time of the assault.

"I would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and that may have any information, no matter how small they think it is, to contact us as it may assist our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2264 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Crimestoppers is an independent charity and not part of the police. If you wish to pass on information about crime anonymously, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or fill out our anonymous online
