What kind of fish are in the Captain's Pit and how big are they? What is the history of this place, as when you think about it , it's quite an unusual thing to have in this residential area.

I used to fish it about 8 years ago, before they had the algae problem. I used to go at about 4am and then fish it till around 7 when it went dead after then !! Not sure why ?? But it fished well and it was bite a chuck with tench and some big eels believe it or not up to 4lb. I used to fish it with meat and casters over pellet !!

hi all aint been on for a while but as we are nearing spring i thought i would bring this post back from the dead. the captains pit has apparently been having its on and off days lately as with alot of lakes with the temp's the way they are at the minute. but as for its stock. it has a lovely tench population going to 5 maybe 6 lb. few carp in there biggest av heard out with good reason to believe them is an 8lb common. as the waters warm up within the next month i will put a full day or 2 in on this venure and tell you abit more about the place. i.e. baits and methods. but i am pretty certain you could have a good day even now if you feed a good quality pellet out little and often and fish as light a gear possible on the maggot over them. as for History on the place. . .
legend has it an old sea captain put his wife up to live in marine villa (liscard castle) and set off to sea. a while after she got news that her husband was lost at sea and shortly after she drowned herself in the small pond near the house (hence the captain's pit name) on more than one occasion over years people have reported seeing/hearing her knocking in the lower levels of the house. a workman left the house and wouldn't return apparently years ago when given the job of blosing the underground tunnels. (which some claim 1 of them leads to chester castle.) i believe there could be tunnels but they will lead to places in liscard new brighton in my oppinion.
get back to you all soon with tips and tactics
Tight Lines and Wet Nets people.
Rickie

We used to go with a net and jam jar and catch sticklebacks. We used to go there with the same hopes but also with the submarines from the Beano or Dandy filled with baking powder. One of our first chemistry lessons.
