It's a little scary, but I can see the point. The students should have a choice.

Well people really do need to learn *how* to drive on motorways.
Maybe the test should be in two parts, roads and then Motorways. I'm fed up with people staying in the centre lane doing dead on 70, with nothing for miles around.
Thinking about it though, one mistake on a motorway and a 70mph+ impact and it's curtains. Maybe let them out on it, ONLY after a certain amount of lessons.

This is long over due....
Think about this...
17 yrs old, and you pass your test.
STRAIGHT ON THE MOTORWAY !!!!
No experience, and upto 70mph....
No wonder there are accidents, so i'm in favour of it..

supose once the learner is capable enough to safely drive a car, like at the end of their lessons, then they should be let onto motorways as they're kinda important to know how to drive on if that makes sense

HERE'S MY VEIW: when i was learning to drive i only passed my test in 06/02 i had 10 lessons then passed and after i passed i went on to do the pass plus test which teaches you the MOTORWAYS,NATIONAL SPEED LIMITS,and COUNTRY ROADS with all the narrow roads and speed limits. I thought that that was great because it gave me some experince of the speed and how to control the car so YES i am in favor of it, if it prevents accidents and saves lifes

Yeah, Great idea.... Maybe once you have passed your test you cannot drive on motorways until you have done a "Pass Plus" type of course to give you some experiance with motorway driving ???? I am totally fed up with the centre lane idiots doing 60 - 65 mph and not moving over which then has a knock-on effect to the 3rd lane and then everyone doing 70mph plus has to take up the 3rd lane, if the car in the middle lane moved over to the inside lane everyone could take a step to the left and leaving the outside lane for the driver in a hurry or simply whom wants to overtake.
The middle lane and the outside lane are both strictly for over-taking only, when you have completed your overtaking manouvre you should then return to the inside lane.

I think it is a really good idea!
Maybe they should teach them how to get to places other than Leeds on the Motorway tho!
(You would know what i meant if you know me!)
In all seriousness (Is that a word? ) I do think it is a good idea, especially when you see some of the drivers on the Motorway who just do NOT have a clue and Lane hog, or crawl along in the outside lane etc (Oooops flash back of Preston Cruise! )

Not only does the pass plus certificate help make you a better driver on the motorways and such, it also makes your insurance much cheaper. Equivalent to a years NCB for the first 2 years
