Thanks Briszone. Nice.

Have you ever been to Chelsea Flower Show? I went about 4 years ago, something I had always wished to do. Excellent trip and wonderful to see the gardens, which actually appear smaller in reality, to seeing them on tv.
Lots of wonderful things to spend your money on but mostly out of reach for the ordinary visitor. Beatiful flowers and perfumes in the marquee. Just one thing puzzled me. In the marquee there was a beautiful arched centre piece. Circular with four entrances along small pathways.N S W E. It wasn't very big but every bit of it was adorned with roses. All different and all perfect but there wasn't a scrap of perfume in any one of them. Most disappointing, considering where we where.

Hi Granny,

No I have never been able to get to the Chelsea flower show, the only one I've managed in the past was the Southport one, not the same I know, but still nice to visit, plus the fact one is able to buy and transport new plants from there.

As for the roses not having any perfume? maybe they were being overpowered by nearby planting, and then again, if they are sited next to plants they dont particularly like, they won't give off any scent at all, roses are very particular I find.

Enjoy your garden.

Bri..

Well Briszone, we learn something new everyday.Interesting, I didn't know that about roses.(not giving off any scent, for reasons). They certainly didn't have perfume, I was eventually on my hands and knees sniffing everyone of them. Granny with a mission!
So far as Flower Shows go, I think Southport is probably the better, for various reasons.
Chelsea was great, but didn't send me in a spin and I wouldn't want to go again, that's for sure. Some have said the same about Tatton too, but I don't know. Yet, Southport has a huge following of the same folk year in and year out.
The funny thing about Chelsea was at the end of the last day, they have a huge sell off of plants, trees anything really. These visitors are amazing, they rush to get what they have earlier pin-pointed, then walk out with huge pots of stuff, massive plants etc and most are to get on a coach! There's allsort sticking out of windows. I can't imagine the drivers being too pleased, although they may only be going a short distance.

Haha Granny, that's a site I would have enjoyed, you on your knees sniffing the roses....lol
As for the folk buying plants on the last day of the Chelsea show, Ive seen that on TV and often wondered how they got them home, I have enough trouble transporting a bush from the local garden centre..ha-ha

Not sure if this is allowed or will even work for me, but this is an E-mail I get now and again from Gerdeners World, I will try and paste it here.

OH well it didnt work but you can read it online.
