See the Video Video Link Read the Bumf Click Me Now see how many die in a general hard shoulder search Click Me Its currently being tested out on the M42 Junctions 3A-7 and could go national soon. They have copied the idea from other countries and its said to be a success. What do you think...

I heard about this a few months ago, I think it was most probably on the BBC website. It seems a good idea to me when there is massive congestion, they are forever letting people use the M6 and M5 hard shoulders when roadworks are taking place causing the amount of available lanes to be reduced, and it seems to work well.

I'm not convinced yet, but then again this far north we dont experience half the jams that can be around birmingham.
So it would probably recieve a warm welcome in that area, Would be strange to see cars going down the hard shoulder.
But as many concerns have been raised about the Saftey net of just having a hard shoulder if there is a problem and not having the momentum to find a safe layby.
In time we shall be converted, but you know what us Brits are like as soon as there is a death due to breaking down on the Hard Shoulder (New First Lane). When Active Traffic is active.
I think its a good idea, but have my concerns with saftey.

I have travelled on the M25 several times now where it has a whopping 6 Lanes on each carridgeway To be honest its a load of shite. The inside 3 lanes are empty, everyone uses the outer 3 lanes only. The traffic flow is NOT improved at all. This is what is needed : Big signs stating : Drivers : The middle and outer lanes are for overtaking only. Keep Left I am so fed up of foreign and english drivers simply sitting in the middle lane and outer lane when they are not even overtaking, this stops vehicles behind them from overtaking therefore causes conjestion. If they simply turned there steering wheel slightly to the left for a second or two and shifted the **** out of my way then the motorways would flow allot better and freely. Half the drivers look like illegal immigrants who probably dont have a driving licence, insurance nor MOT. They dont have a clue, they drive in the middle lane at about 55 - 60 mph blocking everyone. You can spot them from about half a mile away, Tossers. Motorway instruction should be a compulsary part of a driving testRant over.....
