all depends what you want the spuds for , ie mash chips etc
one of my faves is maris piper a good all rounder and good crop producer
best way to do your spuds is to get some old tyres, stack 3 high then fill with compost and your seed potatoes, once htey start to grow and gain some height, you then add tyres and more compost to maximise the crop , you can keep doing this for the first 8 weeks after that just keep them well watered
this rain has made a big difference to my lawns, i fed them the week before the rain came , and they have greened up nicely and shot up !
getting sick of my bird feeders getting hammered by a local gang of tree rats
yes my lawn is looking nice. but seem to be bothered with weeds in the driveway and borders comming up quicker than ever. anyone recommmend a good weed killer? am tempted to get rid of my lawn as it takes longer than anywhere else in the garden.
I've grown potatoes in a haphazard sort of way, though I'm not this year. I haven't much space, so I've tended to go for salad varieties eg Charlotte, or pink fir apple(?) knobbly little beasts, but they make a good potato salad. I grow Gardeners Delight tomatoes in the greenhouse, and mixed salad greens in a raised bed. The mixed greens are always expensive in the shops, and honestly they grow like weeds! You don't need much space for them. So nice to be able to pick just enough for a sandwich. I have chives, and flat-leaved parsley. (yes, and sage, rosemary and thyme!)
That's a good site Pontytail. So too late for potatoes this year. Never mind. Might stick to the salad stuff, like mixed greens this year and maybe some herbs. They smell nice too.

Please do you know if clematis can be moved and replanted successfully, elsewhere. I have two which are lovely, and would like not to kill them! At the base of one is a weed which seems to have extremely deep roots ,thick leaves and is wrapped around the clematis root system. It seems to be halting the growth of the clematis now. Have tried some weedkiller, but it came back with avengance. Don't know what other option there is, apart from moving the plant.

That is excellent Brizone. Thank you. What's good about that site is, it's written in simple English with very clear instructions. Will do it next spring, it sounds a safer option and have saved the site just incase the memory fails.
Thanks again,much appreciated.

Excellent links Briszone, thanks. They will be useful to many of us.
