Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. ~Chief Seattle
I have no dates, I did say that. Thanks for the info Geek
It's well worth looking at that site Pablo. There's quite a few old photo's on there you might like, although some of them are one's you've already posted (...just spotted the Vale Park one of 1948).
Hi Pablo,do any of your old photos show a policeman wearing big white gloves standing on a platform of some description controlling the traffic on Duke street/Corporation road where the roundabout is now? I'm not sure whether I remember it or just think I do.
You remember correctly. This was possibly the last police traffic position manned 24 hours per day every day in the U.K.They needed to direct traffic in accordance with rail traffic movements on the docks.I believe there was an electric heater in there.Must have still been unpleasant in winter nights. Can't remember when it was done away with.

I was told by a friend that there was also some beer and whiskey kept there as well! Purely medicinal, and to keep the Copper warm on those cold days and nights.
