Well people are giving their opinions saying the lad who stabbed him deserves to be hung etc, so it looks like the judge has already gave his sentence.

Re Ian`s in Upton, I used to go there with my grandfather Albert Binyon many moons ago, my grandfather Albert brought me up from the age of 2 and knew practically everybody in Upton Village, and there was a shop called Lipton`s, brings back some nicer memories xx

Yep Liptons also, wasnt that where the Ethel Austins opened? Corner over from the Eagle.
Lived in Moreton myself but spent most of my life in Upton and Saughall Massie.
Remember the old Toll cottage outside the Convent, my mum worked in the Convent as a dinner lady, remember going to pick her up with my dad. And they tested the air raid syren every week i think!!

I remember Bert very well. When i was a young lad used to go to the market and always had to visit him.. Always made funny jokes and made me laugh.. A very kind soul.. Always give me free Apples and Bananas.. It was always a pleasure to say hello.. Always a pleasure to walk past him and listen to his antics.. Quote from bert as i remember it as yesterday.. "Come on, come on,, Fresh bananas 1 Pound A Bunch" "Apples 80pence a Bag" "Hey how are you" Alwats cheery, always happy and great with the old ladies.. Very s very sad to here of his death like this.. I read on Liverpool Echo over in Australia and im still shocked.. Regards and Love got to you Mike58 we have lost a very kind soul.. in the most horriblest of ways.. May your family and friends have the spirtual healing during this time. Love and Light.. Rest In Peace Bert.. From your friend Lee..

Liptons is now a gym, ethel austins has closed down....

upton village became a ghost town for the ordinary shopper when Sainsburys was built....Malley's and bridgers newsagents still plod on...even the butchers are still giving it a go but most outlets are now chip shops or restaurants with a couple of bookies inbetween

As the shops change the area changes, no more traditional shops, instead we have bookies attracting low lives, crappy fast food outlets and large ugly asda type supermarkets.
This people results in poor areas and houseprices plummiting.
Every little helps? yeah right!

Wirral murder accused appears at Crown Court

A YOUNG Birkenhead man accused of murdering and robbing a retired greengrocer appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today (Monday 16th April).

Dean Brennan, of Laird Street, faces a charge of murdering 71-year-old Bert Allanson, on March 22 in Dawson Avenue, Birkenhead, and robbing the pensioner of an unknown quantity of cash.

Brennan, 20, who appeared via video link from Altcourse prison, was further remanded in custody by the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Clement Goldstone, QC, until June 7 when he is expected to enter his pleas.

A date for his trial was provisionally fixed to begin on September 3.
