Wirral schoolgirl soars to success in trampoline championship

A WIRRAL girl has scooped a top prize for her trampolining talents.

Bethan Davies Williams, from Wallasey, was crowned the winner at the British School's Northern Trampoline Championships, beating contestants from the North West, Yorkshire and Northern Ireland.

The 11-year-old, who attends West Kirby Grammar School, will now compete for the overall British National Schools prize in March.

Birkenhead Trampoline Club member Bethan said: "I train every day, apart from Fridays. In total it's around 16 hours a week.

"I'm nervous about the national finals but also excited.

"I used to do a lot of gymnastics but switched to trampolining and found I really enjoyed it."

The national finals take place on March 11 in Bristol and Bethan will be judged on a set skills routine and a voluntary performance.

Deputy headteacher Kirsty Whiteley said: "Bethan had already done extremely well at the North West qualifying heats so we were delighted to hear that she'd gone on to win the Northern championships.

"The whole school will be wishing her success in the nationals."
