Hi Buddy
Its not just as simple as upgrading the CPU I'm afraid.
If you plan on upgrading then it will have to be the CPU, motherboard and memory and even possibly the power supply....
It all depends on What you intend to use the pc for? Internet / Gaming?
If its just for internet / word / excel etc then you dont need anything too powerful and you may find just a memory upgrade will speed things up for you along with a slight OC on your cpu....

What are you trying to do with it and how long has the OS been installed for?
Format the entire thing and you'll see a ridiculous speed boost from it. Don't RESTORE it, format it with a windows disk.

If you just use the Internet and the odd application then I would just add more ram. Double it if you can, win 7 will use all your free ram as a cache and it speeds the whole thing up. the more you have the more it will cache.

Thanks for you replies
OS has been installed for nearly 12 months, don't know why "the guy" installed 32 bit when I had both discs (32 and 64)
I believe 3+ GB of ram is the max for 32 bit,(maybe just my pc) but 64 bit can take much more??
Main uses are general internet plus digital imaging using photoshop elements 9 - struggles a bit with elements 9
I'll get somebody to clear 32 bit and install 64 bit and increase ram to 6GB - your thoughts please
Thanks

if elements is 32bit version there is going to be no performance increase.
Windows 32bit can recognise memory up to 3 or 4gb after that it just wont use it or see it.
64bit windows can use all of the available memory, but if your running 32bit software ie elements your max file size will be 2gb and it wont recognise / utilise the 64 bit of your operating system. So i would say very little performance improvements if that is the case.
Hope that helps

If you're gonna update the RAM past 4GB you may as well install 64bit. But either way, formatting the machine will see a massive speed increase. Try and format every 9-12 months or so and you'll find that your machine will stay speedy for as long as the hardware is working correctly.

I have had nothing but problems with my laptop, it came pre installed with 64bit win7, with only 2gb ram and would not accept any more untill I updated bios now it will take 8gb, am on lookout for win7 32bit and hopefully I will get a speed increase, and less crashes and freezes. I just need to learn to use a different browser.
