I have noticed that a number of Wikiwirral people seem to have a liking for poetry. So I thought it would be nice for a Poets Corner to be available for anyone who wishes to make their own poems available for us to enjoy. It really doesn't matter if you don't think yours is good enough, because there is something good in everything and if you have a message in your poetry,it would be lovely to share.
Maybe someone could start a children's section too if they thought it a good idea.
To start the ball rolling I will post one of mine which is on a childs fantasy theme and you will probably think it rubbish, but that's ok.I don't care!

The River Bank

On special days I find a nook,
Beside the river and I look
For tell tale signs of tiny folk,
Who often like to play a joke.
I hope to catch a fleeting glimpse
Of Fairies, Elves and maybe Imps,
Watching them, watching me,
And then I see!
Scented air from sweet pea hats,
They're riding on the snowy backs
Of swans, which gracefully glide along
The twisting river, wide and long.
Minnows splashing, croaking frogs,
Are sitting on the floating logs.
Dragonflies play chasing games,
Wild flowers with many different names,
Gently wafting in the breeze.
Some may make the Fairies sneeze,
But Fairies love the little flowers,
Picking them for many hours
To make their garlands, daisy chains,
And some for hiding from the rains.
They fly so fast and very low
Skimming water as they go.
Swinging from the weeping tree
I know that they are watching me.
Showing off and trying to tease,
‘Will you come and meet me, please’?
Dancing in their fairy rings,
Fluttering lashes, fluttering wings,
They do not care for anyone,
Not today, they're having fun.
I shall come another day
And watch them in the same old way.
I bet they wonder what I'm at,
I'm just.............. A melancholic cat!

Classic new years poem.

Ring out the old, ring in the new

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

"What can be said in New Year rhymes,
That's not been said a thousand times?
The new years come, the old years go,
We know we dream, we dream we know.
We rise up laughing with the light,
We lie down weeping with the night.
We hug the world until it stings,
We curse it then and sigh for wings.
We live, we love, we woo, we wed,
We wreathe our prides, we sheet our dead.
We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear,
And that's the burden of a year."

Another nonesense one.

Fairy Cake

There was a young elf,
Who lived on a shelf,
In the kitchen of an old house;
Behind the old pans
And jelly mould cans,
His only friend was a mouse.

Until one day,
In the month of May,
The fairies arrived, by chance,
In the midnight hour,
Spoons, pans and flour,
Where flying around in a dance.

They took out a bowl,
Then in this big hole,
Threw cherries and currants and rice,
Stirred it up well,
They all had a smell
And thought it was perfectly nice.

The poor little elf,
Who sat on the shelf,
Poked his wee head out to see,
In a twink and a flash
The fairies did dash,
Grabbing him by his knee!

“You’re coming with us”
They said, “Now don’t fuss”,
He shed a tiny teardrop,
Out came the cake,
Which was wonderfully baked,
Then, they stuck him onto the top!

Serious poem (with a twist) for Granny and Edna. written by FiremanFil....

THICK

I took my wife to see the doc
(She thinks there's no-one finer!)
He said to her, "Take off your frock!"
To me, "Sit in the corner!"

He took his stethoscope to her
And listened while I watched
I worried for my missus
But my fears were quickly scotched.

He finished his examining
Then turned to me, quite sad
But somehow I could sense the news
Would not be very bad.

He asked my wife to wait outside
Then called me to his desk
I crossed the room, quite slowly
Then I sat at his request

"I have to tell you, Sir,
That she has got acute angina!"
I winked back at him, knowingly-
Her tits aren't too bad, either!
