Always steer clear of calipers that are rusty and have been slit half way up the hose. Unless they're straight off the car, the piston will be knackered and rip through new seals everytime you change them!

I've been after a set of those alloys as well. wink

they are fresh off a car mate, and the calipers on my car atm are rustier than those. Bit of sandpaper and they'll look loads better, may even give em a lick of red caliper paint,or silver, i think red calipers are only suited to white hondas

TBH I think those calipers look pretty decent. Being cast and inside the wheel they do rust from all the road crap. All the rubber caps are still on the bleed nipples and sliders so they should be in good nick, and cutting the hoses is the fastest way to get them off (the ends are still wet too which shows they are fresh off a car).

Pads look new, so they must be OK of someone has just put a set on the car before taking the calipers off.

Every set of cast calipers Ive ever seen have looked like that and still worked fine smile

A good wire brushing and lick of hammerite and they be good as new.

Pics below
Cossie discs in comparison to a dinner plate (actual size 278mm,current discs 240mm)
[Linked Image]
Top pipe, custom adaptor to make braided hose fit mondie caliper,Bottom pipe, end of mondeo flexi hose,
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
2 custom braided hoses (supposed to be direct fit onto caliper, but arent) and the 2 adaptors whipped up to make em fit
[Linked Image]
Adaptors fitted, and braideds fitted to the back, this better be able to fit without fouling the struts etc,if not i'll have to get a new set of custom braided hoses with the right end on.
[Linked Image]

Cost of all this

Mondeo V6 Calipers, carriers and good cond pads - £23 quid inc delivery
Cossie 278mm discs - £27 each with a discount from motor factor
Braided hose - £27 the pair
2 adaptors made of brake pipe - £4
some dot 4 fluid - £5

All nuts and bolts etc will be free from work

113 quid for MUCH better brakes, not bad at all,to renew my little 240mm discs and pads woulda cost 50 quid

why not black? i think painting calipers red or silver looks chav imho.

look at the strut now with the wheels off and you could make judgment of whether the pipes will clear if not a small adjustment qon't bother the joint as long as you haven't tightened them fully now.

are the escort calipers you have on now the split pin or the 7mm allen key type?

i got the push pin ones ATM.

And if the copper hoses do foul i'll bend em a little with a brake pipe bender and see if i can fit em a few degrees to make em fit,if they need extremem bending (which cant be done) then i'll just have the end of me braided lines replaced.Cant wait to fit em

IIRC brake thread are universal... (Scooby may be able to confirm)

You can get a converion hose for the S13 to take the 4pots and they are female on the car side, and male on the caliper side - if the thread is the same they woulds suit you down to the ground.
Ok they may up your brake upgrade cost a bit, but good brakes is one thing, reliable brakes is everything..... happy

possibley not mate,as the legnth of the hose is very important too,and the hoses on the escort are comparitively long compared with all the other hoses in the book we looked thru. As said,if they dont fit i'll just take these hoses back and have one end taken off and a male end put on (if thats possible, may need hoses made from scratch again)

time will tell, only 3 days now

Its not the "will it fit right" thats worrying me matey, its the "will it last" The copper lines on the end of a flexi will move and flex (and weaken) as the car goes over bumps etc, thats why the brake lines after the fixed point on the car turn to flexi hoses.

To be honest, brake mods arent something id like to test to the point of failure before deciding a better solution is needed no

I agree to the only way I would do what you say is to fix a bracket between the cooper and braided hose.

Dob jun.bedding in nicely and can deffo feel the improvement, cant waqit til i can hammer them. After all that hassle there was no need for the braided lines,i've used em,and i cut the standard hoses up to get a bracket off them to fit to the braideds, but the standard flexi bajo would fit with a washer added and the little leg bit grinded back a bit, bit peeved about that, spent 35 quid unnecesarily. oh well
