OK, so I'm sure most of us have heard of it but for those who haven't - Kepler 22b is a new planet that has been dubbed "Earth's Twin".

Thought to be 2.5 times bigger than Earth but with very comfortable living conditions, the discovery of this planet has started all sorts of discussions including - " How Should We Treat It When We Inhabbit It" ?

So, my question to you is this :

How do we inhabbit this new planet and what rules would you put in force if you were in charge?

I heard lots of arguements today and suggestions from people.

Anything from NO technology such as mobile phones e.t.c. all the way down to no street lights, no currency, no weapons all being voted out of the new planet's foundation.

Personally, if I was in charge, I would ban ANY AND ALL religions or religious beliefs on there as in my eyes, Religion is the biggest cause of war and misery on this planet.

Anyhow, this got me thinking. Here we are trying to work out if we ( the human race ) now have a "bolt hole" to escape to and start a fresh being as we've already f****d up this planet and something jumped out at me.

Kepler 22b = "Earth's Twin"
Easy for humans to live on
Already has oceans and continents
Very possible that other animals and life forms are already there.

Got me thinking that the question being asked should actually be :

What right do we have to go and take over somebody else's planet?

Are we as humans really that arrogant and ignorant that we beleive everything belongs to us and we have the right to invade other homelands? I think the answer has to be YES we are as we have done it for thousands of years and treated each other like crap causing much hurt and misery than we ever needed to.

Best thing for us to do with Kelper 22b? Leave it the hell alone.

Would be lovely to think that we as humans have a safe haven to go to in the future once we have completely ruined Earth ( even if it will take over 1000 years to get to Kepler 22b ) but what right do we have to just dump ourselves and our problems on them?

I know this sounds a very far fetched idea and probably won't be achieved for thousands of years but I just can't help wondering if we really are as important as we think or is there something else out there in the vast depths of time and space that just makes us completely irrelevant?

Sorry if this doesn't grab anyone's attention.
I'm not usually a deep thinking person but this has got me in a bit of a spin although I do know that it'll probably never affect me.

Your views please?

Cheers for reading,
Volly

I remember reading a story like this when I was young (so we're talking 30+ years) about us finding a new planet and what we would do with it, the part I remember most is how long it was going to take man to get there, and how the volunteers for this brave new world would have to be kept in suspended animation for the 100's of years the journey would take.

However man being man, and time being what it is, technology continued to advance, and during their journey a faster more efficient method of propulsion was developed, and by the time the original volunteers had made it man was already there and running things in just the same way as they had here.

If we have one planet and that is your lot we have to take care of it because once it's gone it's game over, now we think we might have a replay, I can see people becoming a liitle more relaxed over it, without thinking; if this planet has life on it, what rights do we have, if it never has, why not, and what do we do about the very items we are now running out of, the petroleum based products.

do you really believe we will get to "move"planets ?

i believe that the powers that be would rape it of all its minerals/oil resources that were of use way before the populus could get a step on it

i say stop wasting money on space travel and sort out the masses of starving people on this planet !

do you really believe that life as we know it could evolve along a paralell line towards the same outcome ?

Billions of cellular adaptations have taken place over millenia to create the life we see on our planet. Microscopic changes have formed all that we know, all based upon environmental conditions. A tiny difference in chemical makeup of the atmosphere on other planets would surely see evolution taking a completely different path.

maybe if it has inhabitants they may be thinking of coming here or have already been here.
If it is older than the earth they may be more advanced beings
As jabber says it would be plundered by the rich and powerful and I doubt if ordinaty folk would ever get the opportunity to go there
