Hi: Does anyone know the origins of Craven Street in B'head? My hubby's family (Craven) were from this area.

Craven Street was named after Mr Joseph Craven who was connected with many public movements in Birkenhead over many years. He was one of 5 men who were known as The Promoters who pushed and worked for incorporation for Birkenhead, which became a borough in 1877.
God help us, Come yourself, Don't send Jesus, This is no place for children.

Birkenhead was run by B.I.C. ( Birkenhead Improvement Commisioners) from 1844 until the Incorporation of the town in 1877 . As stated before Joseph Craven was one of the Members of the Board for much of that period. He lived in Hamilton Square , Birkenhead so the family home is still standing & can be visited . Craven is buried in Flaybrick Cemetery in the Bidston area of Birkenhead. Quite a large tomb but NOT ostentatious . From memory I think it is a large flat slab on the ground with quite an extensive inscription with details & dates etc. Would be interested to know if you are indeed one of his family-please let me know.
