Hi Folks
I am looking for a cheap printer/scanner.
I do not need it for photos but for my university course work, printing docs and scanning my assignments etc
Now I have looked on sites such as PCWorld etc and there seems to be good deals but do these come with hidden extras, such as not being supplied with any ink, the ink costing a small futune etc
So any advice would be most welcome

The Epson’s Stylus SX130 is a printer scanner and copier which is the ideal choice for home users and students who need a compact all-in-one that can print copy and scan at an affordable price. only £29.00 in asda. x hope this helps. ive got an epson and i get my ink from bigabyte very reasonably priced. i think you get some with it but only starter cartridges x

These are drivel. Throw away printers, because the ink costs more than the actual printer, so be done with it and buy any for £30. I have a top notch one you can have for a tenner but the ink will cost you £50 so pretty pointless really.oh well. By the way, they do come with ink, that's just some bullcrap they feed you, a sales pitch so to speak. Remember they work on commission.

Nomad Forget about all in one and get a cheap b&w laser printer. Something like this. Cheap to buy, prints super fast & the ink lasts for thousands of prints. Plus the replacement toner&drum unit only costs £45 per. Not sure what you'd need a scanner for, don't you have a fairly recent phone? I'd imagine you probably do if you're in uni. iPhone can take better than scanner quality images even as far back as the 3g. Android phones can do it with even older phones. I use mine in work for that purpose and I work in the legal sector, never have any complaints. It's quicker to take a pic and email directly from the phone than it is to scan it properly.

Thanks that great advice.
Yes I do have decent mobile 8Mpxl on HTC Sensation. that will do nicely.
The laser printer is also a good enough but a little out my ideal price range
Will have another look around but this time only a basic printer.

Sort of agree and disagree with most. If all you're doing is printing text just get a cheap laser printer, you can get a mono for under £50 and although the toner does cost more when you need it than ink you'll need it much less often. Unless you're a company that can claim its ink against tax ignore Lexmark and HP, the ink costs more than the printer most of the time. The all in one SX130 suggest above is a good little printer, it does come with ink (unless someone has sold the originals) but the cartridges in it are not as full as replacement ones. Be aware of "extras", don't bother with extended warranties, Epson have a one year anyway. Don't pay ten or twenty quid for a USB lead (PC World price), the shop listed above where you can get cheap ink for them has them for a pound or so or even throws one in if you get the printer there (although the ASDA price for the printer does seem to be a couple of quid cheaper at the moment). Hope that helps? PS. Staff at the shop mentioned aren't on commission
