"Softball is a version of baseball that can be played by mixed-sex, mixed-ability teams; although it can be played at a very serious level in a highly organized way, it is also very suitable for recreational play. It needs only a modest outlay in equipment, and can be played in more or less any wide open space (there is also a winter indoor version).
It is a fast moving game, usually lasting either 7 innings or 60 minutes. The pitching is underarm and 'slow' (hence slowpitch) although it can still be quite tricky to hit the ball! The batting side attempts to get their players round the 'diamond' to score runs whilst the fielding side tries to get them out in one of several ways. The fielding side has to get three batters out to end their 'inning'. Teams then reverse roles and so the game continues.
" From the Nottingham SU website.

I'd really like to start playing softball, but the nearest clubs/teams are Runcorn and Bootle, so not ideal. There are so many leagues and clubs around the whole country but nothing for the Wirral, so I'd like to get a couple of teams together with the future goal of starting a Wirral/Merseyside league.
If others are interested we'd only need two teams of 10 (5 male, 5 female) to start with and obviously somewhere to play. It's co-ed, so if anyone aged 18 and over would like to play, get in touch, and if enough people are interested I'll get in touch with BSUK and see if they can help.

Awesome, tell everyone you know about this!

I'll put some posters up in libraries and sports clubs and see if I can get any interest. I'm also gonna contact the council and see if there's any ground that could be used for softball. Any ideas where we could play?

Just spoke to someone from BSUK responsible for our region, and she said she'd come to the Wirral and help us get started and sort out some equipment for us. She said we could just play on a field for now. So all we need is some more people!

I would be interested. Used to play baseball years ago so could help any novices get to grips with the basics. Are many people up for having a go?

Sent you a PM.

There is a 'come and try' session on Sunday 19th February (location and time tbc) with the regional coach from BSUK. If anyone is interested in coming to this or interested in playing softball please email me at [email protected] and I'll keep you posted.
