A woman came to a book signing in Linghams yesterday and asked if I knew that some gates that once stood in Birkenhead Park are now part of a property in Heswall. Sadly she couldn't remember the name of the street the house is in, but she was certain that they were huge and were orginally from the park. This was news to me, but has anyone else ever seen these gates and know where exactly they are today? The way she described them makes me think they must be quite well known in the area.
Would be great to see a pic

I wonder if these could be the gates in question in Gayton, leading down to lower Heswall. But I believe they came from Woodside Ferry?

I think there was a thread on here (or somewhere) about them.

If I recall, they came from Woodside Station. Yes Tatey, there was a thread about them - somewhere!

Your welcome Pinz, those gates look a bit elaborate for the park, especially if you look at the other ironwork around the place, even considering some may have gone missing for the war effort, i think the lady may have been confused, get in the queue behind me.

Just wondering if what possibly appears to be a crest on the top of the gates has any significance, either to Woodside station or the railways.

Maybe if you contact the owner, who is Dr Ian Entwisle,he might be able to tell you the history of the said gates.

No Miss Croft, you can't have them for your house, they're not going for free, and they'll never fit in the back of pepperheads van!

Looks very much like the Pope's hat.
