[Linked Image] A fellow prisoner has admitted trying to kill Soham murderer Ian Huntley.

Damien Fowkes, 35, pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to slashing Huntley's throat in Frankland Prison, Durham, in March last year.

Fowkes, from Northampton, also admitted the manslaughter of child killer Colin Hatch, who was strangled at Full Sutton Prison near York in February this year.

He was initially charged with Hatch's murder but his plea of guilty to manslaughter was accepted on the grounds of his diminished responsibility.

The court heard how Fowkes shows "strong psychopathic traits" and was told he attacked Huntley on the healthcare wing at Frankland, where the Soham killer had been working.

Using a home-made weapon, Fowkes slashed Huntley, causing a "severe gaping cut to the left side of his neck". The judge was told the wound was 7in (18cm) long and required 21 stitches.

Fowkes was in prison serving a life sentence for robbery which was handed down in 2002. But the court heard his minimum tariff of five years and 220 days had already expired when he attacked Huntley.

The judge was told he killed Hatch on D Wing at Full Sutton. This is for vulnerable prisoners and Fowkes was there due to self-harming incidents.

Mr Reeds said Fowkes barricaded himself and Hatch into a cell and told prison officers he would not kill him if they stayed outside. The officers dealt with it as a hostage situation.

Mr Reeds said Fowkes said he was motivated to commit both attacks because "they were offenders against children". He said Fowkes remarked: "They just do my head in. It was the same when I did Huntley."

I think that's why it says he has already exceeded his 5yr tariff.

They keep say that they're going to scrap the IPP but if they do how will this leave prisoners like this, who will then claim that they shouldn't have been in the place where they could commit these offences ?

IPP - Indeterminate Sentence for Public Protection
If you look it up there are a LOT of conflicting views on these.

I don't get it, the whole of that refers to ipp being for sexual offenders yet there are plenty of criminals inside with ipp for ABH, Section 18 knife crime ect.

?

I know, that site is so biased it's actually funny to read it, as long as you know what the truth actually is, and don't believe what you're reading.

If you want to have a look at the actual legislation use the CPS site HERE and that'll make much more sense smile

Fowkes was locked up for three knifepoint robberies over 4 days, he was high on crack and owed over £4k to his dealer and was under a lot of pressure to pay it back. He received his sentence because his mental instability made him a danger to the public.

Huntley had a history of arrests for sex with underage children ranging from (he later admitted) 11-15 year old, although none were ever proceeded with by the CPS, he was arrested for a number a rapes and a burglary although they didn't make it to convictions either, which is how he got to work in a school. In 2002 after a row with his then girlfriend Maxine Carr on the phone he abducted two young girls from the school he was the caretaker at, killed them and hid their bodies.

Fowkes is dangerous, we know that, we can be aware of him, Huntley is devious with it and got away with it for a long time.

THIS is the home-made knife that was used to slash Soham monster Ian Huntley's throat in prison.
Armed robber Damien Fowkes, 36, melted a razor blade into the end of a 6in plastic knife and wrapped a cloth around the handle to get a better grip.

The picture was released yesterday as Fowkes was given a life sentence for attempting to murder Huntley and the manslaughter of another child killer.

Fowkes slashed Huntley, 37, last year at Frankland jail, Co Durham. Huntley — who murdered ten-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambs, in 2002 — got a 7in scar in the attack. Fowkes asked an officer: "Is he dead? I hope so."

Fowkes strangled paedophile Colin Hatch, 38, earlier this year after being transferred to York's Full Sutton prison. He attacked the pair because he hates child killers, Hull Crown Court was told.
