Picked up a speeding fine last week and decided to pay the fixed penalty using a debit card by phone.
So I ring the number printed on the penalty notice and key in the serial number on the payment slip. The automated system tells me that the serial number I have input is invalid.
I get three tries to enter the serial number (which I know is correct) but it rejects it each time and then it says they will transfer me to an operator - the phones rings a few times then they tell me they are having technical problems and cuts the call.
Fortunately I still have some time before the fine is due but supposing it was the last day of the payment period.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get in touch with the payment office using a number other than the one printed on the form?

As long as you make note of the time and dates of the call. These should show on a phone bill, that is proof you try to pay.Did you get the opions to go on one of there driving coarse. Cause you spend a day in a class room talking about speeding and then a written test to show that you where listening.I Try dig the number i had to used to pay the fine.

If their system was up the spout that might be why it didn't recognise your serial number. To save money on their 0845/0870 numbers try www.saynoto0870.co.uk

I had the same problem but eventually got sorted
Speeding Fines issued when stopped by a Police Officer How can I pay my Fixed Penalty?
Merseyside Police are unable to accept fixed penalty payments. However payments can be made using Credit/Debit card by contacting the Court Fixed Penalty Payment Line on 0845 600 0490 and quoting your Fixed Penalty number.
If your notice was issued within the Merseyside area, send your exact payment to the HMCS, P.O Box 817, Liverpool, L69 2AF.
Cash should be sent only by Registered Post. Cheques, Postal Orders and Money Orders should be made payable to the HMCS and crossed. Please include your name & fixed penalty number on the reverse of the cheque. Post-dated cheques will not be accepted.

Driver Improvement and Safety Awareness courses, are only offered for red light & speeding offences detected by fixed roadside cameras or mobile speed detection vans, subject to certain criteria.
Driver Improvement and Safety Awareness Courses are not available to drivers who are stopped by a police officer and issued at the roadside with a Fixed Penalty Notice for speeding or failing to conform to red traffic light.

I'm hoping for this driver awareness course instead of the points when I send this NIP back!

No, it was either a road side mobile thing or a fixed camera. I wasn't pulled over at the time so from what I've read they may offer me it.
I'm just not sure what the criteria is. My speed was low enough according to the Merseyside Police website but it just depends what other things they take into account.
It's my first speeding fine but my driving record isn't squeaky clean. I got 3 points for stopping on a zig zag back in Feb 2007.
