Hi guys,

Does anyone know where about you would have to stand today to the get this view from the the 1940s?

I have one modern shot but I'm not sure of it includes the original location.

God help us,
Come yourself,

That's a great thread with plenty of info, but all this is before my time and this grassy expanse is hard to place in my mind. Does anyone have any personal memories to help pin point where about the water was, using the above modern picture as reference. Is it straight ahead? To the left?

Ow my eyes!.

Ok I can see where it is in relation to this shot from the other thread.

But all the buildings are completely gone now and the ground landscaped so you will never even get a similar view. This is my best guess anyway. What do you think.

Your on the wrong side of the pub kev, in the old construction picture the building dead centre with the school bell tower type thing is in the middle of the current seaward car park.

Dan's two pictures appear to be taken from near-enough the same spot. The hanger type building running across the rear of the old picture runs across the end of the pool.

Here are two identically framed pictures/maps

Right after reading your second post and as I have time on my hands I have done a bit of an image overlay and I think I have cracked it.

If you look near the top of the 1930s photo, taken when the pool was being built, you can see the road snaking down to the prom. All the old buildings, now demolished, are on this side of the road ie the lh side of the modern aeriel photo. The current pub shown in your photo in the first post is where the red arrow is.

Interesting thought on the 40s bomb damage, I wonder if it was from the same stick of bombs that had been dropped and the last two were found further out on the beach in the 60's, I remember a bomb recovery lorry got stuck off the beach and was covered by the tide.

I watched one of that stick being
detonated in the early 60's. It was
way out around low watermark.

At the time I heard that it was one
of the stick that had damaged the
Derby Pool eastern outbuildings.
