The mentally and physically disabled victim was stripped and battered on a disused rail line.

Now Boyer, who is in prison awaiting sentence next month, has written to a pal: "Can't wait to go to a proper jail for lifers. They sound sick (slang for good) bro, key to my door, bare s*** to do, playstation and DVD."

He claims a lag and an official at Glen Parva jail, Leics, told him he will go to an easy open prison.

He boasts: "I get to go to town with a screw in normal clothes I go to mcdonalds and cinima and nandos. It sounds sick."

During her ordeal in Rugby, Warks, Gemma was made to drink urine and suffered 55 injuries, with her nose almost severed.

Boyer and two pals were found guilty of murder at an eight-week trial at Warwick Crown Court, in which they joked in the dock. Two others, including his girlfriend, were convicted of manslaughter.

I love stories like this, ok a little perspective, and perhaps the reason(s) why he was told all this.

The guy has been sentenced to a life/long term sentence, and yes those prisoners are treated differently to those doing short-term sentences.

You will always get those who say "bang them up, throw away the key, feed them stale bread and water..." but there are a few things to think about:
First of all these people will be released back into "normal" society one day, now if you took a dog, treated it like cr*p, locked it in a cold leaky shed, gave it nothing and then one day kicked it out of the door to fend for itself what do you think it's going to do, would you trust it, would you want it living in your area ?

Secondly, you have the "give them nothing" brigade, okay, so if you give somebody nothing what do you take away to punish them? As a child we used the "go to your room", which in effect is what prison is, if you "go to your room" and there is nothing in it, what do you take away if they do something else wrong, and if you start down the "you put them in a room with less", less than what ? The punishment is the removal of freedom and liberty, they are THE most important fundamental rights that we have. A TV just stops boredom (and if they abuse it it is turned off), what a punishment, the TV is there, you can see it, but the power switch is outside your locked door. The Playstation, well for a start not only do you have to be on "enhanced" regime within a prison, but you have to buy it yourself. Now enhanced regime means that you're working, you're attending courses to address your offending and you're complying with the prison rules, and if you don't, you lose it. Okay so it may be a way to make controlling prisoners easier, but...

Thirdly, you have a prisoner who is told that he is never getting out, or wont be out for so long it feels like it, he's bored, restless, nothing to do, and is in that bare cell that the Daily Mail reader wants him to have. What's to stop him killing/slashing/raping another prisoner, what's to stop him doing it again and again, (and it has happened) and before you come back with "well if they weren't there in the first place...", what if it wasn't another prisoner, what if it was one of the staff, what if it was one of the teachers, what if it was one of your family in a visiting room going to see one of their friends? Okay so perhaps a little extreme, but in every level of society we need to have some form of control, and now the cr@pping in a bucket is all but gone perhaps a little dignity is needed.

The guy IS in for a shock, some of these things (shock horror) WILL happen, yes he will go to an open prison (lifers work their way through the system, and a open prison is where they end their sentence to allow them to reintergrate into society rather than just kick them out the door), yes he will go into town (sometimes on his own) and whilst he's there he might go to McDs or Nandos, IF THEY STILL EXIST, because this will be YEARS down the line, it's not going to happen next week, he will have been through the Cat A(possibly) Cat B and Cat C (Cat D is open) jails before then, and he will see things that your average person couldn't even dream of or believe could happen, and not once, but on a daily basis.

Just look at the other things he says he'll get, "a proper bed", if he thinks it's a divan with storage or a memory foam matteress then he's wrong, it just means that he might get a single as opposed to a bunk bed (although a lifer on enhanced might be allowed to buy a duvet rather than a blanket, so at least he'll be warm), "a proper table, a proper chair", yes you'll get a table and chair, because you'll need them when you take your meal back to your cell (which also has your toilet in it) to eat it.

What they did was despicable, but one day he'll be out, which would you prefer, someone with that sort of mental attitude full of hatred and rage against society, or someone perhaps a lot older and a little wiser who realises that making choices for yourself is the greatest gift we have.

The death sentence sounds a much better alternative.

Threads like this normally bring about the competition of who can think up the nastiest sentence, from cutting hands off to hanging, none of which is going to happen. I've never been one to worry about rehabilitating prisoners, as long as their inside where they can't do any harm to society is good enough for me. If a good prison sentence can't rehabilitate them and the penny doesn't drop, why should we pamper them, if they come out and re-offend, put them in again for longer. I understand there may well be a victim when they do re-offend but the chances are, if their going to, no amount of pampering will help.

God help us,

Considering that over 70% of the public want the death penalty
reinstated the government hasn't listened. It should be a life for a life and then just thrown into a hole or go to medical research or body parts.

Nick should never be that good that someone looks forward to going there. It should be harsh and hard as can be made. That bloke is always going to be trouble no matter what you do with him so life meaning life, or execution, are the only things that will make the rest of the population safe. Chindanamo's just got away with a charge again and he'll be amongst some poor community before long and you know in your heart that he is going to do some other poor soul. Some neanderthals just can't be helped so sort 'em out and leave the rest of us soundly asleep in our chariots.

This young tosser is obviously a "glass half full person" and is just taking the positives from a really crap situation - or maybe he is just too retarded to acknowledge the seriousness of his predicament and was too thick to understand the consequences of his vile actions. A prolonged spell in prison might show him the error of his ways and make him less inclined to violence when he finishes his sentence. I think the regime should be harsh enough to make him afraid to be have to return to prison.

Assuming the Sun hasn't just written the letter for the story of course. And then quoted a 'prison source'.
