Anyone on the Wirral can get to Clatterbridge faster than they can get to Fazakerly - not sure how Fazakerly is easier to get to? Doesn't make much sense really. If you are lucky enough to have a car perhaps Clatterbridge is closer, but with public transport from our home in Oxton Fazakerly is closer. Anyway I was actually trying to say that it's easier to get to Liverpool City Centre than it is to get to Clatterbridge, or even Arrowe Park for that matter.

Geographically, Clatterbridge is much more central than Fazakerly for its "catchment" area. Fazakerly is also a good few miles from Liverpool City Center

I am really disgusted with what is happening to the hospitals in Wirral, there has recently been news that the vascular department is to close at arrowe park, so any major surgeries requiring vascular surgeons will now have to go to the countess of chester hospital, I also heard on the news that arrowe park hospital was closed due to norovirus but that 'the women and childrens hospital on the same site was't affected', when did theysneak that through and split the maternity unit from the rest of the hospital? Is this about seperating the non-profit making parts from the rest? I can't believe that Clatterbridge ocology is going to vanish too, its known countrywide for being a center of excellence, exactly how much of wirrals health service is going to be left? Just shows exactly how well thought of the people of Wirral are by this conservative government!! Women and children's hospital is still part of WUTH, it's just the new name for the Duchess of Westminster wing. Vascular services for the whole of the Cheshire and Merseyside were reviewed a while back. As more concentrated services are proven to improve skills and patient outcome, the key decision of the review was to suggest that "about two" vascular centres was optimal for the Cheshire and Merseyside area. Liverpool Heart and Chest is the obvious choice for one, which would leave COCH, WUTH, RL&BUH etc fighting to be the remaining choice. WUTH and COCH decided, seemingly at board level, to put forward a joint application with services centred at COCH. It was the lack of clinician input in this joint venture that lead to the vote of no confidence.

Money in it for some one, don't know where, but I'll bet there's some brown envelope swapping going on! You have such a cynical view on life. Fat cats sitting in their massive leather chairs handing each other envelopes without a care in the world for anyone who is affected... Unfortunately you can't please everyone and it may be that this is a cost cutting exercise which stems from way above the NHS. Perhaps if they didn't cut the oncology unit at Clatterbridge then they'd have to cut services elsewhere which is far more detrimental than a trip through the Mersey Tunnel. People are so quick to jump on anything and everything at the moment, and yes in an ideal world there'd be funding for everyone and every single thing - unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world and there are decisions to be made.
