Hello Autowirral section. Last Friday I had both my front tyres replaced as the tread depths where barely legal. Since then the road noise has increased noticeably and the ride is not as smooth. Its almost as if I can feel every pebble embedded in the road surface. Is this normal or has some oaf at the garage managed to mess something up?. The car also feels slightly more sluggish but I admit this may just be my imagination and the mpg has dipped slightly which may be down to the lower temperatures this week. Are there any common mistakes that could have been made that may be causing this?.
I have checked the tyre pressures and they are normal. I have also made sure all the wheel nuts are tight. I even jacked the wheels off the floor to see if they wobble but they don't.
Does anyone know what it may be?.

Did you replace the tyres like for like?

A different brand of tyre will feel different, especially if you have been running on the old ones for a while.

They may have stiffer side walls which will cause a firmer ride, and the tread pattern and compound can account for any noise and mpg differences.

Have you checked the tyre sizes, not unheard of for some garages to put a different width on when they are out of stock. Generally new tyres should be quieter if the old ones were close to limit, especially on wider tyres.

Only other thing is the weather has dropped in temperature so tyres will be slightly harder when cold.

hi kevin, I used to work in a tyre depot fitting and fixing tyre,s ,michelin are a softer compound {especially when nearing their end of road life did you notice a bit of cracking around the side wall??} than bridgestones plus if the tread patten is different, that make,s a noise difference.Did the tyre fitter put balance weights? on the rim? if he/she hasn,t then the wheel is not balanced properly. michelins are a good tyre last a long time and good in the wet but again hard compound to start off with in the beginning of the tyres life but then goes softer. Now bridgestones are a harder compound through the life of the tyre and pretty good in wet . hope this of some help to you?? cheers mike. thumbsup
