You will need a rod license and another for whichever water you are fishing on.ie-Rod license plus a day ,week or season for the park. You can go to a fishery and buy a day license for your rod plus tariff to fish, minus your rod license if you have your own for the season.Do not be tempted to ignore £2000 fine and harsh sentence if you do not have the right paperwork and they do check.

You need an EA (Environmental Agency) rod licence (Available from the Post Office) to fish in ANY body of fresh water in the UK including your mates goldfish pond in his back yard.. All this does is allow you to fish with a rod. On top of that, you also need permission of the owner of the water you intend to fish in, if it's private water. If it's a day ticket water, you need to buy a day ticket permit. For local Wirral Parks, you need an A.W.A.C. (Association of Wirral Angling Clubs) Permit, obtainable from the local tackle shops. Don't let people tell you you don't need one, you do! Bailiffs can arrive any time and ask for your licence and permit. There is a substantial fine of up to £2000 for not having an EA Rod Licence. So to answer LIVERPOOL 1234, yes, you need two bits, a rod licence and something else.

Sea fishing is still free and you do not need any licence.

Careful fish, if the EU get wind of that oversight it'll be the end of free sea fishing.
