There used to be some old military base in Holm Lane Oxton. Don't know if it was RAF though.

There was some sort of military instalation/camp just round the corner from RAF West Kirby. Used to play there, only a couple of building bases and gatehouse were there then, all gone now i think. Come from RAF West Kirby site to the roundabout at the crossroads heading to saughall Massie, turn left at roundabout and was there in the fields to the right! Havent been on the land for years, go past quite often but cant see anything there. Anyone add to this??

Where they just beside a bend in the road?. I remember a brick structure being there years ago. Me and my sister used to call it the wishing well because we thought it resembled one (we where kids at the time).

Apparently it was used for the national service training 6 week stint. It did have a nick-name but dont kow what it was. Part of the land was requisitioned by MOD, but now is farmland again. It is on the left from Suaghall hope this helps!!

HI, I think you mean all the roads off Frankby road...eg Upavon ave. , Kinloss Road, Martlesham Crescent etc
Type in kinloss road on google maps and have a virtual 'drive' around the place.

They were just the married quarters for West Kirby and later Sealand. All named after RAF Stations.

That's an interesting map - must have been made when the RAF West Kirby site was actually being developed. Only shows half of the estate by the roundabout built, and there's no sign of the officers accommodation on the road up to Black Horse hill (opposite where Hilbre High School is now).

Just had a lovely walk with the dog this morning from Saughall Massie Road, through the old main entrance to R.A.F. West Kirby & by following the signed footpaths came out onto fields to the back of the horse place in Larton. Not a sign of any remains to be seen from the path, but so quiet & peaceful. One problem is that people empty their dogs there & don't pick up.

The land and buildings i meant were from RAF camp to the crossroads, then turn left to Meols, then just there on the right at the 2nd gate opening (1st takes you to stables etc)

Hi yes I think it is the place. A friend of the family owns the stables and the area around there. Aparentley some of the land owned by the farm was requisioned during the war. Some of the kids had another name for the area locally, but dont know what it was.

I think the one your talking about between Saughall Massie and Frankby, i know it just as 'The Camp'these days. Manor Farm in Frankby uses these fields as grazing for their horses. I know that they also just call it 'The Camp'. But i will ask them now and see if they know of a official name for itand let you know. Hope that helps.

Some of the kids at that time had a nick-name for this place, as so did some of the men serving there. When they went out with local girls they did'nt say they were from the Raf West Kirby, but gave a different name they called , again a possible nick-name given by the lads on the camp.
