i have always been very interested in old ruins like this one... as i dont know much really, are there anything else simular to flint castle, very old ruins around wirral, or wales just as close to liverpool as flint castle is??
any pictures??. would be interested to read up about the places

not exactly ruins, but there's a great mott and bailey at Shotwick Castle. Wirral's only Norman castle.

Theres Ewloe castle in wepre wood. Its only a small ruin but its in a beautiful setting

Theres Ewloe castle in wepre wood. Its only a small ruin but its in a beautiful setting I was here yesterday, take a picnic and a camera, it's stunning. Caergwrle is good too, as the castle sits within an Iron Age hillfort

Beeston Castle, just outside of Chester is worth a view. Also if you visit on the first Wednesday of the month they have a really good market & auction not far from the site.

IIRC correctly there is an Abbey somewhere in North Wales, been a long time since i been so can't remember the name.

I was thinking it was near Llangollen, so it may be Valley Crucis Abbey. Especially, given the name, i assume it is in a valley, and you can see it from the road below you, which is what i remember?
Google says you have to pay there now, i never remember having to pay in the past.

Greenfield Valley Heritage Park What is left of basingwerk abbey. Nice place to look around and not far away.
