No trams ran in Wallasey in 1949. They ceased in 1933. There would of been no tram lines still laid by then - I don't even recognise the picture so it is unlikely it is even Wallasey!
The number of the tram appears to be 45, anyone with tram timetables and routes. Did the buses carry on with the same number as the trams when they replaced them?
God help us, Come yourself, Don't send Jesus, This is no place for children.
The tram is a Liverpool car. It's painted in the all-over drab wartime colour. They weren't re-painted green with cream bands again until their next overhaul. The pic could be early 50's (?) It's a new picture to me, but being on the No.45 route, it's going to or from Pier Head/Garston. Can't make out what's on the blind. The car still has its original glass louvres over the lower saloon windows and it looks like the indicators are still in situ. These were on the cars when they were built (Edge Lane), but soon disappeared.
Sorry. A lot of bumf just to say Liverpool, not Wallasey !!
The tenements looked in need of a bit of TLC even then, but no graffiti and no litter in sight.
Just crowbarred a L'pool tram book out of the shelves. I think the picture was taken in Beloe Street, Dingle. On a hill, single track but overhead for two-way running !
If we didn't have sad gits on here then we wouldn't need Wiki Wirral,Iv'e learn't more about the history of this area by being on this forum than buying loads of local history books, long may this forum be the definitive reference to the history and present and future of our knowledge about Wirral.
