Frightening isn't it, at one time you could work all your government based finances out. I've had a few episodes in the last couple of years where the department couldn't understand or explain them and the response is usually "wait a couple of months and see if it sorts itself out".

If you are on low income there are other benefits such as Housing Benefit, Income Support, Council Tax Benefit etc.

http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx this is a great website it tells you what benefits your entitled to i.e WTC CTC, HB CTAX based on your income, I use this site most days in my job.
