Why dont they (or are they) have an ice skating rink in the new development? Couldnt they incorporate one somewhere? I know its a long journey there and back if my kid wants a lift to Deeside. Think it would be a good idea. I think our peninsula should have one.
I've been saying the same thing for some years in regards to any development in New Brighton. The transport to New Brighton is far easier then getting to Deeside.
It'd cost the council some money. It'd be an investment if they gave planning permission to big brand retail as they get more money back. They'd rather build luxury apartments than building a small bit of parkland or some bit of green with a tree on.
The developers were going to build a pool as part of the development but decided aginst it. That's why the Council voted to keep Guinea Gap open. Wirral Council has been short sighted since the year dot.
I was involved in trying to get a ski slope build in southport, on the ocean plaza development. it would have been a privately funded development generation loads of local jobs etc. this was way ahead of the Chill Factor" in manchester and would have been an amazing attraction to the town. but as always, the local authority planning chaps put a stop to it. wirral seem to have a very similar attitude.
New Brighton is finally getting it's regeneration. Due be completed in 2011, outdoor pool, new marine lake, one of the country's first digital cinemas which is all fantastic for the area.
