Can anyone help me find information on residents/owners of 2 Harcourt Avenue,Seacombe in 1945?The rate books have been destroyed, the census isn't available for 100 years and the Electoral Roll doesn't help. The reason for my query is my uncle,RAF pilot David Cameron, married at Wallasey Registry Office on VE Day (08 May )1945 and his marriage certificate shows that both he and his new wife were staying at that address.I'm pretty sure they didn't live their permanently as David was Scottish and based at an RAF site in Scotland. His new wife,Janet Allinson is a bit of a mystery as none of our side of the family even knew of David's marriage. The tragedy of the story is that David married on VE Day and had to return to base immediatly. The following day, (09 May)his plane crashed just after takeoff, killing him and his crew,as well as some civilians on the ground. His bride was only married a day.Having only recently discovered her existence,I'm trying to find out about her and this address may be a starting point. If anyone can point me in the correct direction,I'd be extremely grateful.

It is possible that Janet lived at that address with her parents and David was registered at that address for the benefit of the wedding banns, it saves having to post the banns at his home town.

Hi, Thanks for your reply but I don't think Janet was local-I've got the idea that,as a WAAF,she was attached to one of the many RAF camps and batteries in the area.I believe Harcourt Avenue may have been a friend's address.Any ideas as to how I can find a register of owners/residents at that time?As I said,I've tried rate books and electoral rolls.

try looking at the street directory for that year or the year either side of it
Birkenhead main library have the directories in the upstairs part Possibly a phone call to them might get you a quick lookup by a helpful assistant or a wikimember may go and look it up for you

The 1938 Kelly Directory shows two occupiers:
Clark, Frederick and Sons - building contractors and Jones, Alfred Victor - labourer.
If you have the marriage certificate, what is the name and occupation of Janet Allinson's father?

I have found a David PR Cameron married a Joan Allinson APR-MAY-JUN 1945 in Wallasey. I can't find a Janet, maybe they've recorded it wrong on the register - just a thought if the different name may assist you with your search. I've checked the phone books too from 1945 but so far come back with nothing. Any other info you can give me I may be able to uncover something

Thanks for the replies.First of all,Joan Janet is the same person.I've just received her marriage certificate but it strangely it doesn't show her father's details, just her mother's maiden name given as Mealor.Joan's occupation is shown as a WAAF,formerly a boot and shoe shop assistant.I have also found a birth certificate for a Joan Allinson registered April/May/June 1923 in Birkenhead so perhaps I was wrong about her not being local as Mealor seems to be a Wirral name.I can't find a death registered anywhere for a Joan Allinson Cameron so she may still be alive which would be wonderful.

Hi Chris, The best site is Scotland's People which is Scotlands national Archive .There is a small fee of about 7.00 but for that you can access every birth, marriage, death, census, military service record-you name it,it's on there.Actually,David's (see my original query) mother came from Alloa so I've got loads of information.let me know some info and I'll get you started.

Perhaps she remarried and the death may be under a different name? It's a very tragic story but it would be wonderful if she was still alive to shed a bit of light on your family tree.
