It's amazing how unscathed the brickwork is.

i understand that they where not insured nor will they cover for peoples house contents stored within ???

however a good set of pics for the burnt down wiki treasure chest.

Its been a while since a dockyard fire....

remind me where peel want to build again....

that office block on the corner of the sheds was Brand New {in the 1960s} was inserted into the original shed structure at the start of the Polaris summarine building programme.

fire is a strange thing, I mean look at the drain pipes, all that twisted metal yet the plastic drain pipes remain! needless to say the police turned up complete with flashing lights when I was taking photographs of the place!

The drain pipes are either steel, cast iron or even possibly cement, if they were plastic they would be like crazy-straws.

The effect of fire on the steel structural girders always amazes me, they don't melt, it is just the forces of expansion pushing the stable shape beyond its design limits. This is also what destroyed the twin towers.

I am wondering if the sheet cladding is aluminium or steel, I would have thought steel, the cost of aluminium would be prohibitive.

go and have a look there plastic, you can walk right up to them!
scroll back and look at the pictures there high res images! *lol* plastic, it wouldnt be the first time I have seen things like this!.

Must be some thermo-setting plastic then, not the stuff on house pipes, they melt very easily.

Mostly to do with inflammability, not structural integrity in hot places, perhaps I picked up the wrong ones? Any good links?
