netto in the north end were selling privet hedges last week but there wasnt many left.they were only small and will take a while to grow big enough to give any privacy.suppose any garden centre will have them as well

wheels, try the garden centre on the moels stretch, their prices are pretty reasonable.
I`m sure it takes about 10 years to grow a hedge though frown

If you need a lift to transport to yours give me a shout, i`ll get a van from work!

Drive to a site where they're about to start construction on some ugly buildings and murder all the plantlife... Be a hero and save the bushes from certain death... yomama

and if the fuzz busted turn up... tell them you're saving George the Bush wink

Plant some of those conifers, they take a few years to grow but offer ultimate privacy. I'm doing the same.

Beech makes a great hedge & keeps its leaves all winter. Quite quick growing too. Get an idea of prices here, but you will be able to get locally from a decent nursery.

Wheels - put a 'want' on Freecycle. At this time of year many people are moving stuff about in their gardens. I have had several shrubs off there that could be used for hedging - and it won't cost you!!!

Consider Escalonia, evergreen, small leaf, small pink flowers, easy to clip, likes the seaside, neat, even and compact, not fussy where it grows and easy to propagate. Dip a 6 inch clipping in hormone rooting powder, pop in a 6 inch pot and stand back! No, it doesn't grow too quickly, I cut only twice a year.
Forget privet; it's not that dense. Forget conifers; they're trees not shrubs, some too fast and some too slow.

Bad, bad, bad. They poison everything underneath them and grow huge and blot out air and light, regarded as anti-social now.
