check for air leaks, is it low down or all across the revrange?

Any engine management light? Id get it plugged in to a diagnostics machine - should tell you instantly where the problem is  Could be an air leak, or it could be one of the many sensors on the car....

Just hope it's not the injectors. Big £££ if they go wrong.

I'm sure you would have checked the glow plugs - what about the oil level and how dirty it is. Consider also the air and fuel filters.

good place to start is with a diag scan, fairly cheap on these OBD2 compat. cars plus it would be good to change air filter and diesel filter too. chocked filters dont help and make them smoke!
