Basically, got a Samsung internal DVDR/RW/+/-/DL drive in the laptop, and since day one it has had a habit of making coasters. Seemed fine when making DVD's but terrible when making CD's, bought some more DVDRW's today (Sony instead of my usual TDK) and not happy, it wont recognise them when the 6 year old DVDRW drive in my media centre reads them just fine, so enough is enough, time to get rid of this Samsung piece of shit and put it out of its misery. Looked on the net and it seems just about every drive of this type/model suffers from the same mass-compatibility and writing failiure and drive noise issues, and basically, Samsung should never have released it (quite how and why they did, is beyond me, and it is disgusting in all honesty that they can released such a broken product). Looking for either an internal laptop DVDR/RW drive or a USB2.0/Firewire external DVDR/RW drive. Not fussed which one, just needs to be able to actually do as it is supposed to, without any fuss. Note - NOT ANOTHER FOOKING SHITTY SAMSUNG PIECE OF CRAP!!!!

Just a standard laptop ATA connector mate - getting sick to death of this piece of junk now!! Needs to be a DVDR/RW drive supporting both + and - as I use it to burn off DVD images and DivX for the DVD Recorder.

Come to think about it, a PCI USB2.0 card would do, as the media centre will burn DVD's from my external hard drives but it only has USB1.1 and it can't keep the buffer high enough for prolonged burning without having to rebuffer every 20 seconds lol - I never upgraded it was supposed to years ago!!

Yeah mate, that would be grand, just read up on it and it does seem to be quite a compatible model - nothing can be worse than this Samsung thats for sure, it seems everyone with these drives is having serious issues. If id have known even 2 months ago, id have got a new one under warranty as Dell and a few other brands have been replacing them with alternatives as they are not suitable for purpose, but its out of warranty now. Ive always had problems with it, but just learnt to live with it/too stubborn to bother my ass to do anything about it lol. Plus is seems fine with TDK media.
I will need to get my existing drive out of the laptop and dont have the tools right now, will try and get it done in the next couple of days, gotta find me tools, which could be at me mums, she is going to look for me lol.
Shall PM you when I have the DVD drive (at least thats what they call it) out to arrange to collect yours.
