take a look at the site above, tells all about workhouse's around the country, there is also Birkenhead Workhouse and Clatterbridge...........interesting site!!

Thanks Chris. I have more than a passing interest in the tranmere workhouse as both my gg grandparents died there. Very sad.

what a shame,pulling all these old buildings down, they did the same to Clatterbridge, i think all the old buildings should be preserved, surely they can be just updated? why do they have to pull them down?they are part of history, if they have been there for over 100yrs,preserve them!!

Work starts in the spring. Wonder whether they will keep that plaque+ implement it into the new building?
