Reminder that a dog is for life, not just for Christmas

THIRTY one years after creating its famous slogan "A dog is for life, not just for Christmas" the Dogs Trust is preparing for another busy festive period.

As well as taking in abandoned dogs, staff at the organisation's Merseyside care centre will continue their usual busy job of looking after the dogs in their care on Christmas Day.

Those like Badger and Rupert, two eight-year-old Jack Russell Terriers that are likely to spend the big day at the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Whiston Lane, Huyton.
The inseparable pair have been there for three months but keep being overlooked.
They need to be rehomed together with older children where they won't be left too long alone.

To help prevent people thoughtlessly buying dogs as Christmas presents, Dogs Trust Merseyside Rehoming Centre will not rehome dogs from this Sunday, December 20 until January 2, but you can still visit and reserve dogs, including Badger and Rupert, and take them home in the New Year.

Georgina Lowery, Dogs Trust Merseyside Centre Manager said: "The A dog is for life, not just for Christmas slogan is just as relevant today as it was when our Chief Executive created it 31 years ago.
"Having a dog is a long-term commitment and the Christmas period gives us the opportunity to remind people that dogs are not disposable items that can be upgraded or discarded after just a few months."
For more information visit the related website below or call 020 7837 0006. To book an appointment to see Badger and Rupert, call the Huyton rehoming centre on 0151 480 0660.

Good post, let's hope people take note of it this year.

I know most people get a dog with the best of intentions, but it really is a long-term commitment, and though they provide lots of love and fun, like all pets, they have needs and these needs must be considered very carefully before deciding to buy a dog.

I've been dying to get a dog again... so I've decided that after this christmas, when people start giving their crimbo prezzies away, I'll be in the market to snap one up... for life. wink

I can't believe no one is going to do the gag -

"A turkey is for Christmas, Not Just For Life"!

What a let down you all are!!

In all seriousness, we are suppose to be a nation of animal lovers and yet the way some people treat their pets makes me feel ashamed, not to be British, but in fact to be even human.
