Could anyone tell me please if someone is on job seekers allowance and get a job which is under 16 hours would they still have to go and sign on each week?

And would they still have to call them in for regular interviews about there job status?

I just signed on the other week.

As far as I know, a job under 16 hours still entitles you to receiving job seekers allowance, but yes you will still have to go and see them every 2 weeks wink

But now and again they ask you to sign on weekly, will that still happen?

You still have to do all the proof of job-hunting and get there and find parking etc. All you get in return is your National Insurance stamp because your earnings wipe out the job-seekers payment. There are other benefits you may be entitled to though.

As far as i know, you still have to go to sign, however, if you are working at your appointment time, then i;'m sure they'll be able reschedule your appointments to a better time.

Money, you will get your wages, minus £5, deducted from your JSA

It is so annoying that they deduct pound-for-pound after that fiver (as long as you earn more than 15 notes). Gives you no incentive to pick up bits of work here and there.

I find it equally annoying that working just one day a week would wipe out job-seekers - even though you are unemployed for the rest of the week.

Conversely if I work one week a month I get 75% of my job-seekers. If I work a week on and a week off I still would get 50%. But working one day a week I would get sod all.

Having joined Jobseekers, Ive noticed no real difference in jobs available etc.

Im aware they cant totally provide for each and every single individual person, but the best they came up with for me whilst there was a Furniture sales person, situated in Chester. Im sorry, but I dont really think driving to chester and back every day for minimum wage is acceptable to be perfectly honest. Id much rather something "Local"

The most annoying bit about it though, is the view that it is simply free money. Whilst I was in there, some girl was sitting next to me at another desk. She was giving excuses left right and centre, and the poor woman behind the desk looked quite stressed and simply said "Well im sorry, but theres not much else we can do for you". To which her reply was "I know you're trying your best like, but I deffo need to get off the dole next year, gonna try my hardest like"

WHAT!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of her situation, Im sure it is possible to get a job SOMEWHERE. She stated that shed looked into small hardresser jobs etc. It made me embarrassed being there, as I could tell she was just lying through her teeth. Maybe she could get a job as an actor with a performance like that somad

Ive got a job interview on Wednesday and its £150 every two weeks so if i get it then im just going to come off job seekers, there more trouble than there worth. I wouldn't mind but i have never claimed job seekers in my life and they are treating me terrible.

I turned up the other week to sign on and they called me over and when i got to the advisor she said we cannot sign you as you have an interview in an hour with us, i was so annoyed as i had been told nothing about it.

So i said well im not waiting around for an hour just becouse you haven't informed me of the interview which i then asked her had i been sent a letter and she said on the system it said i had not been sent one, and she told me to pop upstairs and they may be able to sign me and re-book my interview.

So i went up and they told me to take a seat and they would sort it out but i watched the security guard walk up with my paper work and just plonk it on a table and that was that for 15 minutes so i went over to him and said i have told you im not staying here waiting so what is going to happen but he was thick as anything so i asked for the centre manager.

And after 10 minutes he came walking over and told me i would have to wait till 2pm till the interview time which i flipt at this point and i had security standing around the room looking over.

I told him i had not been told and i had not been sent a letter and even there system says i hadn't but then he said he had checked and it had been sent out to me.

But the funny thing is when i went down stairs and made a complaint they looked at my info on the system and they told me the type of interview that i was booked in for the system would not of sent out a letter to me and it should of just been word of mouth from the advisors, so very nicely the upton job centre manager had totally lied to me to my face.

Ive since made a written complaint and waiting a reply.

The system is ridiculous m8 the ppl who work in the job centre simply adhere too government targets and most of them hate the job and dont give a toss about people who are out of work, 1 time after having too go in twice a week for 6 weeks he claimed i hadnt done enough too find work when i gave him a list of 25 jobs that i had written too phoned or applied for by application. The guy in question had a bad attitude with me from day one he was also power happy in his position and he got my jsa stopped for 8 weeks and i had too sit with all the smackheads every week too claim for hardship money which was half the amount of jsa which is alrdy ridiculously low amount £50. The funny thing is i no at least 6 people who because threw drug taking and basically playing the system they recieve 150 per week and 380 on top of this every month because they are so called mentally ill. so my freind just pretend u see dead ppl and ya quids in.

Still the same drill as the 70's then. Because I'd never been out of work before I was told that as I had looked after myself for the last 15 years I could just carry on doing the same, this at a time when jobs were like hens' teeth. I joined up again, I had a missus and 3 kids to feed.

i remember being on job seekers years ago and i got a part time job, think it was 15hrs a week, but still had to sign on every 2wks so as to get a stamp, but that's all i signed on for! if i remember rightly the money i earned was about the same amount as dole money,so in other words....you work for your dole!!
if you work 16hrs or less you still sign on, more hrs and you have to come off signing, and while you sign they will want to see your wage slips every so often, just to check you're not doing more hrs! eventually i was offered more hrs so came off the dole.
