Merseyside police release e-fit of child attack Beast

MERSEYSIDE Police have released an e-fit of the man they want to speak to about a sex assault on a schoolgirl.

Police rushed to the scene in south Liverpool just after 8am on Wednesday after reports that the nine-year-old girl had been assaulted by a man who had approached her from behind, grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the ground.

A female passer-by went to the girl's aid and the man ran off.

He is described as a white male, around 18-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build.

He had short black hair and was wearing a black hooded top, blue jeans, dark-coloured footwear and was carrying a draw-string JD Sports bag.

The girl was left extremely upset and shaken by her ordeal but did not suffer any serious injury.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has seen a man matching that description in the area to come forward.

High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area, particularly at times when children are going to and from school.

Neighbourhood inspector, Keith Porter, said: “This was an extremely serious incident and everything is being done to find the person responsible.

“Thankfully incidents like this are very rare and in this case, this little girl was fortunately not badly hurt, although she was understandably very shaken.

“At this stage the motive for the assault is not clear and I would appeal for anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

“In the meantime I would ask people to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police.

“There will be a high-visibility police presence in the area, especially at key times, to reassure the community.

“I would also advise parents, if they do not accompany their children to school, to make sure that they walk together in groups or with an older child where possible as a precaution.”
