A judge has allowed a paedophile to go free because a police officer did not turn up at court on time. David Berry faced jail after he was convicted of child pornography charges but he was given a community service order instead. Judge Michael Taylor said he wanted to send the 61 year old to prison but that it was wrong to do so because of delays caused by Cleveland Police. Berry of Hartlepool admitted 16 charges of child pornography but the Judge adjourned the case when an officer failed to arrive to show him the images. He then freed Berry this week after an officer appeared to be late to present the same evidence.

Surely the judge was staying to the rules, and the it's the police officer's fault? That's the way it is.

But my objection is that he done it, m'lud. So, there should be some way of hanging on to the miscreant until things are sorted out. It's not ordinary stuff like a bit of shop lifting that this pillar of society has done, it's kids in danger. The same goes for a lot of technical releases, it puts the rest of the population in danger and we are supposed to be protected. There should be some retribution meted out to the police as well, if it was indeed their fault. I like the German way of looking at things, "there is no such thing as an accident. Someone is always to blame." Harsh but fair.

It can be sorted on appeal I would have thought? As some of the evidence has not been presented, that in itself is sufficient for appeal, then there is the over-leniant sentence.

I would also be wary if a judge had jailed him on the "assumption" that the evidence is true!!!!! Would you trust our police with that power?

If I were a child I would ask the Question "Can we trust grown up"s to keep us safe"? I have a grandson of seven. I know if it were my child I would not be on wiki now or would I.Human rights etc. etc.I think we owe it to the kids and do a better job, Do we have to be bo$%*ks at everything we do?
