Half of the country are/were stupid mate; Labour were voted into power by 43.2% of the popular vote, and history tells us that Labour has always been the party of high taxes, exceptionally high national debt levels, and a gradual raping of the economoy.

The Conservatives had to clean up the tragic economic mess that Labour left the last time they were in power...

Yeah the mines were real good, draining £1billion per year (how much would that be in todays money, £12 billion maybe?) from taxpayers money, great idea to keep it going... it took a real leader to put an end to it, not an unelected dimwit like we have now...

And your saying Labour supports British industry... that's the funniest thing I have heard in a while, did the £100million loan MG-Rover asked for which the government denied them (maybe because they were British owned, and not foreign owned?), to ensure they could continue operating until completion of the SAIC merger conveniently slip your mind? New Labour effectively killed the British car industry in one go with that stupid, mindless decision, and knocked 6,000+ onto the dole in the process.

The only industry New Labour have helped, is greedy good-for-nothing bankers, who have got rich quick with the help of Gordon Brown, whilst the rest of us taxpayers suffer the fallout of the disaster they created... If Robin Hood were alive today, New Labour would have arrowes flying towards them.

And since you seem to want to look at history, ill give you one name to consider... Denis Healey. It does indeed seem that history is repeating itself, they say that lightning doesnt strike twice, you try telling that to the Labour party!

If he had any balls, Brown would be at the palace putting parliament into dissolution, but he wouldnt even win the confidence of his own party, nevermind the British public.

wink

The way I see it was - in principle - until New Labour came around.

Labour = high taxes to pay for NHS, Schools, Police etc
Conservative = low taxes - pay for it yourself

Labour = try and get people employed, encourage industry using money from tax.
Conservative = If it doesn't make a profit, drop it = unemployed 80% of population = wages drop = more profit.

Labour - have laws to avoid abuse of employees
Conservative - be thankfull I pay you 1p a week and I am paying for your health to go downhill.

Labour - Use british personnel when possible
Conservative - use cheapest labour possible.

Labour - essential services should be strictly controlled or in public ownership (banks, power, water etc)
Conservative - Free for all as long as we get a profit.

Without any personal insults etc, can anyone tell me that any of the above is grossly untrue - please note I am not talking about New Labour - I am talking about old labour.

The labour system tries to recirculate money within the country.
The Conservative system generates money within the country but there is no stopping major leaks of money going abroad (or remaining stagnant), they hope the in-leaks are greater than the out leaks.
