Serving Merseyside police officers busted for suspected cannabis ring

POLICE launched a series of raids into a suspected drug dealing ring within the Merseyside force.

Four serving officers were arrested during the force’s Professional Standards Department swoop.

Two were charged with cannabis offences and two were bailed after being interviewed.

They are all suspended from duty.

Andrew Bird, 34, from Fazakerley, was arrested last Friday and charged with possession with intent to supply and supply of the class B drug.

He appeared before magistrates on Monday, alongside co-defendant Darren Burns.

Burns, 31, of Southport, arrested on the same night, is been charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

A 32-year-old officer also arrested on May 15, and one aged 43, from Allerton, arrested on Sunday, were both bailed.

A police spokesman said: “The police service needs to ensure that the public has confidence in its officers and staff to act with integrity.”
