Basically my wife wants to learn to drive, putting me in the situation of once she passes we will need another car for her. But as I sat here thinking and browsing autotrader for suitable cars, bingo, she can have the baby bus that is the Mazda (or sell it for a different baby bus) and I can get a new car, something cheap to buy, will only be doing 80ish miles a week to go to and from work so MPG isnt to much of an issue, will only be insuring 3rd party so insurance shouldn't be a problem but I have to stay realistic. I wanted a VW Corrado for a while but they seem to be quite expensive still, but then I saw the Audi 80 Coupe and quite liked it; VW Corrado Audi 80 Coupe (take no notice of the screen price, this is a very old pic) Taking into consideration that the VW is double the price and the value then makes it compulsary fully comp insurance instead of just 3rd party. So which one sould I save my pennies for or any other suggestions welcome.

OK, just realised that the 2 pics I post are worlds apart and quite bias towards the VW, the pic of the VW is of a show car and The Audi is a standard worn forecourt car, so for comparison against the VW; But with the budget I have in mind, will probably be one similar standard to the original Audi pic. (to start lol)

After a bit more research, I can get an Audi 80 Coupe 2.0L 16v for £795, this will then be cheap enough to make it eligible for just 3rd party insurance. Does anyone no the difference between this and The Audi S2, all I can see is the S2 is the Audi 80 coupe with a Quattro Engine.

I think that might be all the difference is, unless the 2.0L comes without 4WD. If you were gonna go for the Audi, Id suggest S2. Although more expensive overall, can you imagine not being able to lower the window, planting the "Go-Fast-Pedal" and hearin that sound of the Sport Quattro. Closest a lot of people will get to the Old Rally Cars As a sidenote for insurance, have you thought about Admiral Multi-Car? They do provide some good deals for multi-car households. We got a quote of my Mums 1.2 Ibiza, My Alfa.. and my bro when he turns 17 on the Micra, for £800. Thats cheaper than what Ive ever spent on the Micra, and what Im payin on Alfa now.

Get the S2 Audi Coupe. They're solid as rocks. The Corrado is good, but you'll be wanting the V6 or supercharged version. I originally was going to buy a Corrado, an S2 or a GSi many years ago and I went for the GSi, so I did a bit of researching. S2 is a really really good car.

The S2 is a whole new kettle of fish. It has a 5 pot turbo charged engine and makes 230bhp and still fetch really good money. The normal coupes use 4 and 5 cylinder N/A engines, the 2.0 8V engines make 115bhp, the 2.0 16v motors make 140 bhp, and the 2.3, 5 cylinder 20V engines make 170bhp. As for the Corrado, the 8V is 115bhp, 16v is 136bhp, G60 is 160bhp, and the VR6 190 bhp. Given the choice of the 2, Id prolly go for the 16v Corrado given your budget, though if it where my money I think Id find something else, as neither really inspire me (unless it was a VR6 or real S2 )

Saw a very nice example of the Audi in Bidston tesco's car park yesterday. Red, pretty much mint condition from having a quick pokey nose - all that it appeared to need was 2 new end cans. Very nice!!!

what about a prelude, apparently one of the best handling front wheel drive cars ever made, reguarly see the 2.2 VTI's for under £1k. Plus they are likely to be alot more reliable than the audi or vw.
