The Historic Dockyard Chatham has won the competition to host the first national Armed Forces Day event on 27 June 2009, which will be complemented by hundreds of events in towns and cities across the UK.

So far there are no listings up of the local events. When they have been listed, you will be able to see them at www.armedforcesday.org.uk/Events.aspx

2009 also marks the One Hundredth Year of Naval Aviation. It was on 7th May 1909 that the Admiralty first set aside £35,000 for the development of an airship, beginning a process that was to lead to the formation of the Fleet Air Arm as we know it today. Details of the events can be found at www.royalnavy.mod.uk/server/show/nav.7033

I have added this to the calender for the 22 June.
It's about the only thing I have seen about anything local!

Wirral Gov website

Mayor to raise flag for Armed Forces Day

The Mayor of Wirral Councillor Andrew Hodson and the Council Chief Executive Stephen Maddox will raise a special ‘Armed Forces Day’ flag in front of Wallasey Town Hall at 10:30am on Monday 22 June.

The short ceremony marks the start of Armed Forces Week 2009 and is one of hundreds taking place simultaneously across the UK to show support and appreciation for our armed forces community, including serving troops and their families, veterans and cadets.

See www.armedforcesday.org.uk for more information.

Here here to the millions of brave men and boys who put their lives on the line and the unfortunate tragic number of poor souls who died fighting for this country in wars to protect our liberty and our empire... These men went to war, expecting to die for their country, and not giving a toss about whether they had the right equipment to do the job.

The modern day armed forces can never be compared in the same vein as them.

Nah, we will leave them alone, they might fight back! Leave it to the Jews people!

On Saturday at 1pm, there will be a march from St Nicholas Church in Chapel Street to the town hall. See below:

Liverpool servicemen to be recognised on Armed Forces Day

SERVICEMEN will be recognised for the first time with an Armed Forces Day held in their honour.

More than 200 events will be held across the country on Saturday to show support.

Liverpool led the way yesterday when Lord Mayor Mike Storey raised civic flags at the town hall.

He said: “Liverpool has always had strong connections with the military, which was acknowledged with the highest honour we can bestow, the Freedom of the City.”

Veterans, servicemen and civic dignitaries will meet at 1pm on Saturday to march from St Nicholas Church in Chapel Street to the town hall.
